The type of implant used
There are over 600 implant systems but we use only the highest quality Straumann dental implants, which have been researched for over 35 years and are shown to have a survival rate of 98.8% over 10 years. If you choose a different implant system you are 58% more likely to have your implant fail compared to a Straumann implant.

The technology and equipment used
We are one of the few practices in the country to have a Cone Beam CT machine which provides a 3D scan of your bone. This means that your implants can be planned to have the best bone foundation with minimal surgical intervention.

The skill of the Technician
Only the best, experienced technicians are used to provide your hand crafted and bespoke dental prosthesis.

What are dental implants?

Straumann dental implants are supremely strong alloy of titanium and zirconia. They are extremely biocompatible, allowing the bone to grow around it safely, securing it in place. Onto this a ceramic tooth or a denture is attached. They need to be cleaned like your own teeth to keep them healthy.

How long do they last?

With proper maintenance by your dentist and hygienist and good oral hygiene at home the implant part could last a life time. Over many years the attached ceramic tooth or denture many need replacing. Straumann dental implants have a survival rate of 98.8% over ten years. A recent audit of Dr Edwards implant work adheres to this standard.

What does the implant procedure involve?

Consultation
The implant procedure begins with an in-depth consultation. This is your chance to find out everything you want to know and discuss any worries you may have – and it’s your dentist’s chance to thoroughly assess your oral health and confirm your suitability for treatment.

Treatment planning
At West Parade Dental Care, we won’t go ahead with implant surgery unless the health of your mouth is in top condition. It may be that a number of other treatments are required – such as gum therapy – to get to the stage where you’re ready for implants. Our team is experienced at creating complex treatment plans that are tailored to your individual needs and budget. Your treatment plan will include details of any non-implant alternatives that you might also want to consider, and you will have all the time you need to think it over.

Placement
Single and multiple implants can be placed, painlessly, in a single visit under local anaesthetic. For straightforward cases, patients can often return to work the following day. Cases involving bone grafting require more downtime – a week is usually recommended. Following surgery, a temporary restoration will be put in place while you wait for the implant to integrate with your jaw bone – a process that usually takes 12 weeks. You will never be without a tooth.

Restoration
After integration has been deemed successful, your dentist will fit your final, permanent prosthetic tooth or teeth. Good oral hygiene is essential to maintaining your new smile, and you will need to attend regular visits to the hygienist for this, as well as follow a strict cleaning regime at home.

Fees

A single tooth: from £2865

Many cases involve replacing a single tooth and this is a very successful treatment which avoids damaging the adjacent teeth which would be required for a conventional bridge.

Two implants replacing three teeth: from £5865

This is a fixed option to replace three teeth. It will function just like your own teeth and care will need to be taken to floss it as you would your own teeth.

Two or four implants and a removable denture: from £5095

This type of treatment gives you complete confidence in your dentures. There are two types of fixation. One is called a locator system where the dentures click into place like a press stud, and the other onto a bar. The bar give you a more sturdy fit. Although you may detect a small movement with these systems they give fantastic life changing stability to your dentures. The advantage of them not being permanently fixed to the implants is the ability to remove them twice daily to clean and disinfect the implants and denture.

Four to eight implants and a fixed arch of teeth: TBC after assessment

The bridge is fixed into place on the implants with no movement and will act and feel like your own teeth used to. It is important that they are brushed and cleaned with interdental brushes every day.
